Happy Birthday, Steven Gerrard!
You’re my absolute hero. I can’t imagine Liverpool football club without you, and I’m so glad I don’t have to. While my relationship with my father has been tense as of late, I have turned to you and your place in this club to give me guidance. Your story is beautiful; who you are as a person, the brief bits that I know about, inspire me to be a better person myself. The fact that you love this club more than anything gives me hope because I know you’ll never give up on us, even when others do. I wish I could say all of this to your face, to let you understand how much you really mean to me. Perhaps others will find it silly, but you’re honestly my hero. You’re my Captain Fantastic, and I can’t imagine the game of football without a quality player like you. And perhaps this sentiment alone upsets me the most; you deserve everything in this world. You, more than anyone else, deserve a World Cup medal to hang on your chest; a Premier League title next to your name; and another Champions League victory where you are the hero. I wish I could give you all of these things and more because of who you are to this sport: honorable, dedicated, and loyal, something I sometimes find this football is missing. But then I only have to look to you to see where the good is. Happy Birthday, Captain Fantastic. To the years of greatness you’ve already brought to this sport, and the years you will continue to bring, cheers to you.
